2023 at Limberlost Woodturning

It’s snowing today, a cold spell which probably won’t last all week. It’s a good time to look back at 2023 and post a few highlights of the year. Our Artists of the Limberlost Studio Tour was a huge success with lots of visitors and happy shoppers.

I was joined again by painter and jeweller Carol- Ann Michaelson, wool artist Pam Carnochan and singer/guitarist Don Ablett. We had many new guests who entered our studio and commented on the welcoming atmosphere and the quality of the art. Mark your calendar for next year’s show on August 18, 19 and 20, 2024.

I was honoured again to be part of the Algonquin Art Centre exhibit with their theme this year being “Spectrum: Studies of Light”. The gallery closed in October but will be open in June of 2024. The drive into Algonquin Park is part of the pleasure of visiting this wonderful art centre.

I received an enjoyable commission from the Township of Lake of Bays to build a glass and wooden case for the Mayor’s chain of office. Previously it was locked in a drawer and not on display. Now it can be seen in the council chamber in a cherry and glass case. I was pleased to donate this as a gift to my community.

I have a Maple Burl Bowl and a Big Leaf Maple Burl Platter at the Artists of the Limberlost Art Show, displayed at the Canada Summit Centre until January 9, 2024. Located at 20 Park Drive in Huntsville, Ontario, the atrium and galleries of the Summit Centre are beautiful open spaces and accessible to all. Last week I was at the Summit Centre and it was filled with families of hockey players, swimmers, people working on their fitness and those taking lessons. How wonderful that they enjoy a beautiful gallery and atrium filled with art. If you are in Huntsville, please experience this exhibition of the newest creations of our local accomplished artists.

My studio is back to being a workshop. I have sorted through my burls and chosen the best to turn this winter. I’m making a table for my son’s new home and enjoying time at the lathe. Each week I have new burl bowls to add to my inventory for next year. I am open by appointment if you need a holiday gift, wedding gift, retirement, housewarming or birthday present. Call to arrange a visit if you are looking for a burl bowl or platter at 705-635-3190. The gift of natural art is always welcome.
