A recent guest during the Muskoka Autumn Studio Tour bought herself a spectacular retirement gift. Dorothy is retiring from a busy career in natural resources and she is inspired by the natural beauty of wood and Brian’s creative approach to his craft.
Dorothy had many questions and insights into the origins of the burl bowls and platters but she was drawn to Brian’s Big Leaf Maple Burl table. This large slice of burl has the natural shape of a leaf. The rich deep colour and texture of the burl are contrasted by the lighter sap wood and raw bark edge. Brian commissioned the hand-forged wrought iron base from artist blacksmith Matt Church and it is a perfect complement to the table.
Retirement is a time of celebrating past accomplishments and looking forward to the next phase of life with anticipation. What better way for a new retiree to mark this milestone than with a purchase which will acknowledge the years of hard work and contribution, and continue to bring pleasure as she adds to her collection of natural art.
